African Straw Hats

Posted by Ellen Hess on 30th May 2023

We are so fortunate, The New York Times featured our west African straw hats in a recent article! And we've been diligent shipping these hats out to customers who have supported our small business.

Our hats are made by artisans in northern Ghana, the Bolgatanga region specifically. These hats are woven from a wild savanna grass, kinkahe, otherwise known as elephant grass, a durable fiber and sure to last years to come. Each hat comes with a broad brim to protect your head from the sunshine. There's an adjustable braided leather adjustable chin strap which can secure the hat to your head when gusts of wind blow on a ferry boat, or while bending over while gardening. Hat #52 is featured in the adjacent photo.

Our African straw hats come in a variety of sizes, and you're sure to find one to fit the exact dimensions of your head. We hope you get the sun protection you're seeking this spring and summer in one of our hats!
