This sturdy, round pine needle basket with handles is a fair trade product from a Mayan weaving group in Guatemala. Handwoven from pine needles and raffia, it is round with straight sides and features shades of brown and navy blue. It is about 10"x13", including the handles, and 2" deep, a good size for holding bread or fruit. It includes an information card with the name of the weaver on it. Because each basket is handmade, the one you receive may vary slightly from the one in the image, although it will be very similar.
About the brand: Since its founding in 1989, Mayan Hands has been guided by the principles of Fair Trade combined with high standards of product quality. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a long-time member of the Fair Trade Federation. It partners with approximately 200 cloth and basket weavers who live in rural communities around the western and northern highlands of Guatemala.
