Bolga Baskets

Bolga Baskets

Posted by Ellen Hess on 31st Oct 2022

We're so pleased to receive our enormous shipment of Bolga baskets from our supplier African Market Baskets, a small business located in Boulder, Colorado. Kim has been busy reshaping the baskets, a process of wetting them and molding to form thus getting them as close to perfection as possible to have on the floor at our brick and mortar in Port Gamble, Washington. Ellen has added dozens of large sized Bolgas to the website in the last week, providing accessibility for customers a bit further away. The Fair Trade baskets we received are leather handled and made in the Bolgatanga region of Northern Ghana in West Africa, some of the best known African baskets because of their  durability and versatility. These are woven from elephant grass, an abundant crop in Bolgatanga. Exporting the Bolga baskets is a critical source of income for the weavers. The production  of these baskets has a minimal impact on the environment and is a sustainable product, supporting traditional craftsmanship thriving. African Market Baskets is a member of Green America and the Fair Trade Federation, donating 10% of its profits to Every Basket Helps, a non-profit working to alleviate poverty in northern Ghana. Aside from being your new favorite reliable and strong shopping tote, Bolga market baskets are ideal for storing items, or toting toys, picnic and potluck food, beach towels, and holding lots more of your special items. We hope you find a colorway to suit you in either a small, medium, large, or extra large market basket at Tango Zulu Imports.
