It is incredibly soft, and has the warmth of wool without the weight and the bulk. We recommend that you dry clean your alpaca scarf, or hand wash it in cool water and lay flat to dry. Do not wring or twist it. To keep it looking sleek, use a soft bristle brush in the direction of the fiber. It is 80% alpaca fiber and 20% acrylic.
About the producers: Shupaca is a small business owned by a husband and wife team. They work with a community of weavers near Quito, Ecuador, to create products that combine traditional weaving methods with a modern aesthetic. All their products are hand woven on traditional wood looms, and they are committed to fair, ethical, and sustainable business practices.
About alpaca fiber: Besides being divinely soft, alpaca fiber is lightweight, warm, and breathable. Unlike sheep wool, it contains none of the lanolin that causes many people to itch. It is naturally hypoallergenic, and requires no machine or chemical processing to prepare it for weaving.
